Mehana Vaughan
Assistant Professor
University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa

Mehana Blaich Vaughan grew up where the moku (districts) of Halele‘a and Ko‘olau meet on the island of Kaua‘i. She worked as a middle and high school teacher on Kauaʻi and Oʻahu for ten years, focused on ʻāina based education, then returned to graduate school.  Mehana is an Associate Professor at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management, Sea Grant College Program, and Hui ‘Āina Momona. She is part of a hui of Native Hawaiian faculty collaborating with Hawaiʻi communities to strengthen their ability to care for and govern the places that sustain them. Mehanaʻs first book, "Kaiāulu, Gathering Tides" was published in 2018. It is based on 20 years of interviews with kūpuna and community members sharing stories of Kauaʻi’s coasts and the kuleana that come with fishing and living there. Mehana lives on Kauaʻi with her husband, mother, and three children ages ten, eight and six.

Adam Jansen
State Archivist
Hawaiʻi State Archives

Adam Jansen is the State Archivist of Hawaiʻi. He has a Master of Science from Eastern Washington University in Business Administration and Computer Science, a Graduate Certificate in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity from the University of Washington, and recently defended his dissertation to earn a Ph.D. in Archival Studies from the University of British Columbia. He has, at one time or another, held the following certifications: Certified Records Manager, Microsoft Certified Professional, Master of Information Technology, and Certified Document Imaging Architech. A frequent international speaker and author on the intersection between IT and Archives, he is applying all of his knowledge and experience toward building a robust digital archives to preserve and make accessible the tens of millions of digital records stored at the Public Archives of Hawaiʻi.

Skye Patrick
Library Director
LA County Libraries

Skye Patrick was appointed LA County Library Director on February 1, 2016. She has held leadership roles at Broward County, Queens Public Library, and San Francisco Public Library. Ms. Patrick manages the Library’s $201 million annual budget and is responsible for the operation of the Library’s 87 libraries and a 15-vehicle mobile fleet, serving 3.4 million residents in a 3,000 mile area.
Ms. Patrick is committed to break down barriers and increase access for all, she introduced the iCount equity initiative, which ensures that library services and programs address the needs of the diverse community it serves. As the LA County Library Director, Ms. Patrick continues to reinforce the Library’s role in the community as a civic and cultural center, a hub for public information and services, and an institution of literacy, innovation, and lifelong learning.
Ms. Patrick was appointed to the Executive Board of the Urban Libraries Council (ULC), in July 2017. In January 2019, Patrick was named Librarian of the Year by Library Journal, one of the most established industry publications.
